When I first began thinking and praying about the possibility of writing a novel, I knew I would need help since I had not written one before. But along with that, I also knew I had a very clear vision of how the story could and should impact its readers. With my collaborator, Mark Andrew Olsen, I can tell you we spent hundreds of hours in prayer, in plotting the story and developing the characters. Then countless further hours involved line-by-line editorial review in light of the Scriptures concerning the consequences of sin, the power of redemption, and the certainties of the afterlife—for Christians and for unbelievers.

Since the release of my novel, Rescued in the Fall of 2006, I have been blessed and blown away by the realization that thousands of readers have responded to the novel in exactly the ways I had envisioned. This phenomenon is captured by a Georgia pastor who told us he was dramatically touched after reading the novel and felt every person in his congregation should have the book. He purchased over 4000 copies, and these are being used as teaching and outreach materials for the congregation. Additionally, he purchased 1,000 CDs of the Rescued Audio Theater to expand its reach and effectiveness.

The themes of life, death and the Hereafter woven into this story are gleaned from my nonfiction work Driven By Eternity, and in it you will find further expansion of the two certainties I keep ever before me: what I do with the cross of Jesus Christ determines where I will spend eternity, and the way I live as a believer determines how I will spend it.

You may have friends and loved ones whose spiritual condition causes you concern and for whom you have been praying. It may be that Rescued will provide an opening into their lives for the Holy Spirit to speak, to convict and to lead them to the foot of the Cross.
